We don’t usually pay much attention to the symbolisms of those cute items they give out on weddings. They are just favors, something for guests to bring home so that they will be reminded of this important event. If they are edible we are eager to take a bite. If they are the kind that you keep, it stays on our dressers for a while. But there are wedding favors that actually have deeper meanings.

In Asian weddings, for example, sleek candle favors are reminders of lasting love. It is usually engraved with the symbol of double happiness. The frog has been a symbol of prosperity, wealth, and abundance in some cultures; fertility in others. As such it is a favorite favor to thank guests who graced weddings. The people of Ireland believed them to be close relatives of the leprechaun and capable of playing tricks on you when least expected. Among the ancient Egyptians and Greeks frogs symbolized inspiration and fertility.
