discount party favors

My fiancĂ© and I finally decided to get married after being together for 7 years. We also decided to have a small reception composed of close friends and relatives. Even with our rigid screening, we still had 200 people in our “must invite” guest list. We decided to do some serious cost cutting to fit everything in our budget. The first thing we did was look for discount party favors.

A party favor is a token gift given to the guest as gratitude for their attendance. This was originally a western tradition but quickly spreading around the world. Since my wife and I are of Asian descent, our tradition is to give party favors to women guest only. The discount party favors we got are mini cup cakes. It’s relatively cheap and will be enjoyed by everyone.

One of the oldest wedding traditions in the world that dates back to the Middle Ages in Europe and pre-Elizabethan England is the use of the wedding garter. The oldest accounts say that garter belts in weddings emerged from the belief that possessing a piece of a bride’s wedding dress was a sign of fertility and good fortune. The garter is tossed to guests and whoever catches it is said to have good luck.

Over time, the association of wedding garter belts as signs of good fortune has remained. In the past centuries, the garter became increasingly connected to single males thus evolved the tradition where men attempt to catch the bride’s garter belt as the male equivalent to the bridal bouquet.

The most common mistake in planning a wedding is getting overboard on the plans and exceeding the budget by a mile. The justification is that it is the bride’s cherished dream to have a stylish yet elegant wedding. But with careful planning you can still have a big celebration at a reasonable cost.

The idea is to create a memorable occasion. You do not want to just follow a preconceived package of what the wedding should be. But first, start with a budget by listing down all the necessities – church, ring, food, decorations, and bridal clothes. Once expenses for the basics are determined, you can think about little extras like jewelry. A nice wedding bracelet can be had at a reasonable price. Unlike the gown and the flowers, this will be something that you can wear and cherish long after your wedding day.
